Yang Water

· Im · the ocean

You move constantly and nobody can see how deep it goes.

Your is the upper character of your day pillar — the one character in the chart that is you rather than your circumstances. Yang Water is Water in its yang temper: depth, adaptation, the impulse to know.

Character

Yang Water is the ocean, the river, the flood: large, mobile, and impossible to see the bottom of. It is the most intelligent-seeming of the ten day masters and the hardest to know.

You think in motion. Yang Water people are restless, wide-ranging and drawn to scale — travel, big ideas, many simultaneous interests. You are usually the most widely-informed person in a given room and the least willing to be pinned to a position.

The characteristic problem is containment. Water without banks spreads and evaporates. Yang Water charts produce brilliant people who did seven things and finished two, and who are privately aware of the gap between capacity and output.

In love

You are charming, mobile and genuinely interested in people, which reads as intimacy and often is not. You give access to a great deal of surface and very little floor. You need someone who provides structure without experiencing it as a cage — and you need to be honest that your flexibility is sometimes avoidance.

At work

Strategy, trade, media, travel, anything international, anything requiring you to synthesise a lot of moving information. You are poor at repetitive execution and you should build a life that does not require it of you.

What drains you

Earth blocks Water — in a chart, that is constraint, bureaucracy, obligation, being made to stay still. Yang Water under heavy Earth becomes stagnant and depressed rather than angry. Excess Wood also drains you: Water feeds Wood, so people and projects that endlessly draw on your ideas will empty you.

What your chart needs

Metal to feed you — clarity, structure, discipline, people who sharpen your thinking. And enough Earth to have banks, but not so much that you stop moving.

This is general to Yang Water. What your chart actually needs depends on whether your day master is , which depends on the other seven characters — and on which you are standing in now.

A caveat worth reading

Yang Water charts turn up constantly among people who have lived in several countries. But a day master is one character out of eight. Two Yang Water people born in different seasons read almost nothing alike — the same tree in and in deep winter is not the same tree. Everything on this page is the starting point of a reading, not the reading.

Is Yang Water actually your day master?

It is decided by the day you were born, corrected to true solar time — and if you were born near midnight, most calculators get it wrong. Ours shows its working.
