Yin Water

Yin Water is rain, mist, dew, the stream: small, persistent, and capable of reshaping landscape given time. It is the most subtle of the ten day masters and the most consistently underrated.

You are perceptive and indirect. Yin Water people absorb enormous amounts of information about the people around them and reveal almost none of their own conclusions. You influence by seepage rather than by argument, and you are frequently the reason something changed without being identifiable as the cause.

The difficulty is that persistence without direction is just erosion. Yin Water can spend years quietly working on something — a relationship, a career, a resentment — without ever bringing it into the open where it could be resolved.

You are attentive, emotionally fluent and extremely hard to read. You notice everything about your partner and disclose little, which builds a slow asymmetry that eventually becomes the problem. You need someone patient enough to wait for you to speak and direct enough to ask.

Research, writing, psychology, strategy, anything requiring you to understand a system deeply before acting on it. You do your best work with autonomy and time, and you are badly served by environments that mistake visibility for contribution.

Earth, again — constraint and obligation. Where Yang Water stagnates under Earth, you simply go underground, which is harder for anyone to notice, including you. Excess Wood drains you steadily: you feed other people's growth and are thanked in general terms.

Metal for clarity, and Fire in small amounts to be seen at all. Yin Water is the day master most likely to be genuinely excellent and genuinely overlooked.

This is general to Yin Water. What your chart actually needs depends on whether your day master is strong or weak, which depends on the other seven characters — and on which ten-year cycle you are standing in now.

Yin Water is common among people whose influence on a field is obvious only in retrospect. But a day master is one character out of eight. Two Yin Water people born in different seasons read almost nothing alike — the same tree in spring and in deep winter is not the same tree.
