Yang Wood
갑 · Gap · the standing tree
You grow in one direction and you do not bend easily.
Your is the upper character of your day pillar — the one character in the chart that is you rather than your circumstances. Yang Wood is Wood in its yang temper: growth, push, the impulse to begin.
Character
Yang Wood is the tree: upright, structural, growing toward light on a schedule nobody set for it. It is the most straightforwardly principled of the ten day masters and the least flexible.
People read you as reliable before they read you as warm, which is usually accurate. You take responsibility early — often earlier than anyone asked — and you carry it visibly. Trees are load-bearing, and you tend to end up holding the structure of a family, a team or a friendship whether or not you volunteered.
The cost is that you cannot easily change direction. A vine reroutes around an obstacle in a week. A tree either grows through it over years or it does not. When Yang Wood people are unhappy, it is almost always because they committed early to a shape and then outgrew it without a mechanism for changing.
In love
You are loyal and slightly immovable. You show love by providing structure — plans, stability, being the one who does not waver — and you are genuinely confused when a partner reads that as emotional distance. You need someone who says what they want out loud, because you will not guess, and you will not ask twice.
At work
You do well where the work has an obvious spine: building something over years, holding a standard, leading a team that needs a straight answer. You do badly in political environments and in roles that require you to be agile about your position. You are the person who says the unpopular thing in the meeting and does not understand why that was costly.
What drains you
Metal cuts Wood. Metal in your chart is pressure, rules and authority — bosses, institutions, obligations that outrank your judgement. A Yang Wood chart heavy in Metal produces someone competent and quietly furious. Too much Fire also spends you: Fire is what Wood produces, so people who take your output faster than you can grow it will exhaust you without either side noticing.
What your chart needs
Water, usually — it feeds Wood without demanding output. In practice that means study, rest, depth, and people who ask you nothing.
This is general to Yang Wood. What your chart actually needs depends on whether your day master is , which depends on the other seven characters — and on which you are standing in now.
A caveat worth reading
Yang Wood charts cluster in founders, surgeons, teachers and anyone whose work is the same work in twenty years. But a day master is one character out of eight. Two Yang Wood people born in different seasons read almost nothing alike — the same tree in and in deep winter is not the same tree. Everything on this page is the starting point of a reading, not the reading.
Is Yang Wood actually your day master?
It is decided by the day you were born, corrected to true solar time — and if you were born near midnight, most calculators get it wrong. Ours shows its working.
