Which kinds of readings use your birthday?

By

Compare what Western astrology, Saju and numerology do with a birthday, and what to do when you do not know a birth time.

Western natal astrology, Korean Saju and many numerology readings use birth information, but a birthday does a different job in each. A tarot reading can instead begin with a question and drawn cards. Choose the kind of explanation you want before gathering or sharing more information.

Match the information to the method

MethodCommon starting informationFirst output to inspect
Western natal astrologyDate, time and birthplaceA planetary chart and its settings
Korean SajuBirth date and time, with location needed for time handlingCalendar stems and branches
Life Path numerologyBirth dateThe stated digit-reduction calculation
A tarot sessionA question and the drawn cardsThe cards, their positions and the reader’s explanation

These examples follow the TimePassages manual, the Korean Saju reference and Numerology.com’s Life Path method. They document how practitioners organize readings; their interpretive claims are separate from the calculation.

Having only a date does not mean you have every input

If you do not know your birth time, tell the provider. A date-based numerology exercise can still follow its stated arithmetic. A timed chart needs a way to preserve what remains unknown. Our unknown-time Saju guide explains one example.

A fictional beginner knows the day and city but has only a relative’s recollection of “late evening.” The useful next step is to record that uncertainty. Choosing a precise minute because a form requires it would create an assumption, not new evidence.

Choose the experience too

Decide whether you want a chart you can revisit, a written explanation or a conversation about one question. A technically detailed diagram is not automatically a consultation. A warm conversation is not automatically a verified forecast. The first-reading format comparison helps separate those choices.

Pew’s October 2024 survey found that 30% of U.S. adults consulted astrology, tarot cards or fortune tellers at least annually. Read the original source. The survey measured self-reported participation among 9,593 U.S. adults. It did not establish which birthday-based system works best, and it was not a survey of Saju users.

A preparation note

Before booking, write: “I want to understand __. I know these birth details __. This part is uncertain __. I would like the result in this format __.” Ask the provider to confirm whether that is enough.

You can start by reading an example without providing personal data. When you decide to calculate a chart, share the fields the service actually needs rather than uploading an entire birth document by default.
