The annual pillar — the pair of characters governing a single calendar year.

Where daeun sets the decade, seyun sets the year within it. 2026, for instance, is a Fire Horse year, and it lands very differently on a chart short of Fire than on one already drowning in it.

A year is read against both the birth chart and the current decade at once, which is why the same year is genuinely good for one person and genuinely difficult for another.
