How to actually get your Saju read in English

Search volume for Saju in English has climbed steadily for several years. The supply of competent English readings has not moved nearly as fast, and the gap has filled with a mix of machine-translated calculators, generic astrology apps with a Saju skin, and long Reddit threads where one generous person is quietly working through a queue that never shortens.

There are three realistic routes, and they fail in different ways.

A Korean reader, translated

The traditional option. You find a practitioner in Korea, and either you speak Korean or someone interprets for you.

This gives you the real thing, and it is the only route where a human weighs the ambiguous judgements. It is also expensive, hard to arrange from outside Korea, and the translation layer is a genuine problem — a great deal of a reading is in idiom, and idiom is exactly what gets flattened.

A calculator plus your own reading

Free chart calculators are everywhere. You get your eight characters and then interpret them yourself using guides like this one.

This is more viable than it sounds, and it is the route we would push anyone curious toward first. The catch is that free calculators vary enormously in accuracy, and a wrong chart interpreted brilliantly is still wrong.

An AI reading

Increasingly common, and quality ranges from genuinely useful to complete invention. The failure mode is specific and worth naming: a model given four characters and asked to produce a reading will produce a fluent, confident, internally consistent reading whether or not the characters were calculated correctly, and whether or not the interpretation follows from them.

What to check, whichever route you take

Ask one question of any service before trusting it: does it show you the time correction it applied?

Saju is calculated from true solar time, not clock time. Seoul runs about 32 minutes behind its own clocks. Korea changed its standard meridian four times and ran daylight saving in twelve separate stretches, most recently around the 1988 Olympics.

A service that cannot tell you which timezone rule it used for your birth date has not thought about the problem. That is not a small detail — for a birth near a two-hour boundary it changes a quarter of your chart, and for a late-evening birth it can change your day master, which is the character everything else is measured against.

Everything downstream of the calculation is interpretation, and you can judge interpretation for yourself. The calculation you cannot judge without being shown the working. Ask to be shown it.
